So much happens in spring. I love the beautiful new spring flowers and blooming trees! Great backdrops for outdoor photos. And, spring is a great season for many athletes and sports fans! I have loved being outside to photograph Prom (and 2 more coming up), as well as a variety of sports - baseball, softball, track n field, soccer, tennis and my newest sport ULTIMATE!

For those who are wondering what ULTIMATE is, well, it is an awesome sport that the teams have disks (Frisbees) and they move it up and down the field to try to score (a bit like football). This is new to me this year as my son after years of playing baseball and tennis, has taken up ultimate and is on the Metea Valley Varsity team! I've been to a handful of games, and am in awe by the ahtletisism the boys have, as well as their comradarie!  This is a somewhat new sport, and is only recognized as a club in the schools, though I am sure with the way this sport is catching on, it will be a much talked about and much followed sport in the coming years!

Below are some photos that of the Metea Valley players playing - these were taken at Naperville Central during a pre-season "just for fun" game. The boys typically play at the Naperville Polo Club.

The colors are great and families are starting to think about photos for Christmas cards. There are many great things to photograph such as homecoming dance photos, all things related to Halloween and anything outside may be considered photo worthy with the great reds, yellows, oranges in the foliage.

For many years, Stephen has been involved in the tennis camp offered by the the Fox Valley Park District during the summer as well as the COL (City of Lights) tennis program that provides additional tennis training.  Stephen was in the camp for years, and now he is working there and he continues to develop his tennis skills in the COL program! He loves tennis, and I love watching him and photographing him!  The past weekend,  COL tennis had their "Olympics" tournament and I got to watch some of the semi finals and finals! I am currently working on a project showcasing musicians and their musical instruments. I always wished I had more musical inclination when I was a child. I did get to take some piano lessons as a child, but with my focus on dance, I never really practiced enough to get to a place where I felt I was growing and learning in music.
 

As a mother of a child in band, I now really can appreciate the music, the musicians and the musical instruments. I am fortunate to be able to take in some great concerts in the area as a parent, as well as a freelance photographer who covers such events.
 

When I was deciding on a new photography project, I had recently been to a few concerts (and was blown away by some of the talent at the concerts of these young adults!), and musical instruments popped into my head.
 

Here is a recent photo I did of a fabulous and talented young lady and one of her instruments!

One of my favorite events the Scouts do (though the Linden Boys don't usually do particularly well!). I love seeing the great designs the kids come up with! Some of them really spend a lot of time planning and making their cars! I got a great laugh out of the very first "run out of the gate".
 

Congrats to all that participated! Congrats Samil for being the overall winner! Congrats to Neel and Connor for 2nd and 3rd place overall in the Pack! And Congrats to the Bear Den for being the winners of the Akela Cup! Great job all!

It is always fun to incorporate a theme with something for a season or holiday into a photo session. Whether it is a sports theme, or holiday such as Christmas or even a favorite color; something that will make the photo session memorable and personal will give you a great treasure from the images captured. In a recent session, a sweet little 3 week old had some wonderful pictures taken and I was able to include a touch of the holidays to commemorate her first Christmas! Christmas is a great time to add some festiveness as with this little newborn!

There is always so much beauty and color outdoors. It's beautiful for landscapes, but also for portraits.
 

Some outdoor settings make an excellent backdrop for family portraits, senior portraits, engagement portraits - really all portraits!
 

When I am out and about, I am always noticing great "fall backdrops" that really "pop" in the fall.

Mike had a very very brief time in Scouts (probably less than a few months), but when my oldest seemed interested in joining Cub Scouts, I though it sounded like fun! That was about 9 years ago. I watched him have fun in Scouts, and then when our 2nd one was about the same age as Stephen we signed him up to, and then our third son, well he could not wait till he got to compete in the Pinewood Derby, even selling popcorn is fun for him!
 

I now have 2 boys in Boy Scouts and one who just became a Webelos. My oldest is in the planning stages of his Eagle Project, and we anticipate him reaching the rank of Eagle Scout early next year.
 

It has been a pleasure to watch not just my own boys, but other boys in their Pack and now troops grow. What I love about Scouts is the values it teaches, the responsibility it puts on the boys, the life skills they get. Many of the Eagle required merit badges are great in giving the boys the tools they need to become responsible adults - everything from Cooking, to First Aid, to Environmental Science, and more.
 

I am glad that my sons' enjoy Scouts. I love scouts even though I do not consider myself a camper!
 

This past year, I have seen quite a few kids, in both of the troops my older boys are in, reach the rank of Eagle Scout. I am glad to have met these boys and their families!

One of the things I love about my job is that I get to meet new people and I get to be a part of special occasions such as this!

All of the nice spring colors, and the warmer weather (though this spring has been very, very chilly!). It feels good to be outside, getting some sun and what better way to spend an evening or weekend than to watch some very talented athletes (one of them being my oldest son!).

Though I specialize in newborn, family, Senior photography, it is great to do some sports photography. I love seeing the athleticism of the team's players, but most of all, I love seeing their genuine love of the game, and the friendships they are building.

Selecting the photos, and all the decisions has been harder than I thought. During the past month, I did find it a bit challenging to find inspiration as it has been so bone chillingly cold, and I would rather sit inside and "hibernate" than go out in the cold, but I did get out for a few pics. I will remember the phrase "polar artctic vortex for some time, and I will remember the snow of January (and now February). So for now, I decided to put a pic up I took back in the summer, enjoy! 2014
